JRF: Thriving in Brent

The Jason Roberts Foundation (JRF) has significantly expanded its reach and impact in Brent thanks to the anchor grant from the Wembley Stadium Foundation (WSF). This funding has supported vital programs across four key areas: sports outreach, facility upgrades, coach development, and community events. JRF’s coaches now deliver sessions in local parks and community centers, fostering new initiatives like the Bridgestone Bulls basketball team and the Bridgestone Steppers walking football teams. These programs, alongside existing after-school activities, provide crucial support for young people, promoting physical and mental well-being, and offering pathways to training and employment.

The WSF grant has enabled JRF to enhance its facilities, including gym upgrades, new recreation equipment, and improvements to the community kitchen. These enhancements create a more welcoming and functional space for all users. Crucially, JRF has prioritised coach and volunteer development, hosting monthly coaching sessions led by former professional footballers. These sessions have inspired and upskilled local coaches, strengthening the foundation of JRF’s programs. Additionally, JRF has invested in training for its staff and volunteers, ensuring high-quality program delivery and safeguarding practices.

JRF’s community engagement has flourished, with events ranging from clean-up days and health initiatives to tournaments and celebrations of local culture. A highlight was an event featuring Paul Merson, who shared his personal journey with the community. These events foster intergenerational connections, promote health awareness, and celebrate the rich diversity of Brent. JRF has learned the importance of facility maintenance and the profound impact of investing in its dedicated coaches and volunteers.
